I found it fascinating to hear from regular Russians about how they think of the river and the history around it. But I am still appalled by the atrocities on both side of the river in the last 200 years. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 2, 2021 )

As a student of Russian (and later Soviet) history, I learned much about the Chinese side and the depths of the current biases and stereotypes. The geography lessons were superb. How surprised I was to learn that the author is in his 80s! ( Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2021 )
